On November 12, during the centenary celebration of Sun Yat-sen University, the Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center held the launch ceremony for its 60th anniversary celebrations, unveiling and initiating the International Medical Center of Ophthalmology and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Alliance of Ophthalmology.

Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center officially launches its International Medical Center of Ophthalmology.

The International Medical Center of Ophthalmology aims to build a platform for international exchange and cooperation, conduct cutting-edge research in ophthalmology, and jointly address significant challenges in public health.

Lin Haotian, Director of the Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center and President of the hospital, delivers a speech at the event.

Lin Haotian, Director of the Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center and President of the hospital, stated that as a medical institution integrating medical treatment, education, and research, the Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center has the ability and responsibility to establish a world-class medical platform.

"We will not only provide medical services but also export medical-related technical training," Lin added that they will also establish a series of layouts from basic to clinical and translational research, converting research results into productivity to serve more people with needs both domestically and internationally.

The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Alliance of Ophthalmology is formed by the Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and the University of Macau, belonging to a specialized alliance within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Universities Alliance.

The alliance is dedicated to deepening cooperation with medical institutions and universities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) to jointly promote the development of ophthalmology.

The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Alliance of Ophthalmology is formed by the Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and the University of Macau.

The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Alliance was jointly initiated by Sun Yat-sen University, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and the University of Macau in 2016, bringing together 45 universities including 29 in Guangdong, 9 in Hong Kong, and 7 in Macao.

Kee Chea-su, Head of the School of Optometry at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, expressed that based on the alliance, the universities will focus on scientific research innovation, ophthalmology education, and service promotion to provide better medical services.

Song Yonghua, Rector of the University of Macau, stated that the alliance enables Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao to leverage their respective advantages to cultivate high-level international ophthalmology professionals with unique characteristics and, through international cooperation projects, benefit people in the GBA and even globally.

Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center will launch a new round of the "Bright Action to 100 Cities" campaign.

Free clinics are also provided at the event site.

Lin Haotian stated that the center will launch a new round of the "Bright Action to 100 Cities" campaign. In the previous endeavor, the medical team of the Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center's 5G smart ophthalmology clinic tour reached out to 108 cities and villages spanning 28 provinces and autonomous regions in China, providing services to more than 150,000 individuals.

The center will also continue to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with the international ophthalmology community to promote the continuous development of ophthalmology.

It is noted that the Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center has provided anti-blindness services in the South Pacific island countries and Africa, relying on technologies such as 5G smart ophthalmic mobile clinics and the internet, offering more efficient and high-quality ophthalmic health services to more patients with eye diseases.
