“I'm looking forward to exchanging ideas with overseas Chinese on the latest technology and introducing the advantages of starting a business in the Greater Bay Area (GBA). Hopefully, I can find more investors and customers from this conference,” said H. Fai Poon as the 2023 Overseas Chinese Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Conference is being held in Jiangmen, Guangdong province, from May 16 to 18.

Born in Hong Kong and finished his education in the US, Poon chose to develop his business in Zhongshan in 2018. “Zhongshan has attracted many biomedical companies and Zhongshan Municipal Government is very professional in the biomedical area. The government here understands what we need, so it can help us better. For example, I needed money badly when I had just started my business. After they learnt about it, the government introduced many investors to me and gave subsidies to me, which was crucial in the early stage of my entrepreneurship,” said Poon.

Poon also noted that Zhongshan is like another home to him. “My mom is from Zhongshan and she brought me to Zhongshan in summer vacation. I always remember those happy moments in this city.”

Having developed his career in Zhongshan for five years, witnessed how this city has improved in many ways. “The transportation of Zhongshan has become increasingly convenient and the city has become more tidy and beautiful since the cities in the GBA have built stronger connections with the Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area being issued in February of 2019. As a result, Zhongshan has become the transportation hub of the GBA,” said Poon.

According to Poon, he plans to expand the overseas markets as the main products of his company like cell lines, growth medium, and reaction tubes for cell culture, have ranked first in domestic market share. To explore markets outside China, Poon also visits the US a lot. During his business trip, he always shares his stories of working and living in the GBA with his friends and colleagues there. He hopes more overseas Chinese could better understand Zhongshan and the GBA. “I would like to see more and more overseas Chinese come back to the GBA and start their businesses here.”

“The 2023 Overseas Chinese Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Conference will gather over 700 overseas Chinese together, which is a great chance for us to communicate and enhance cooperation,” added Poon.
