More than 3.92 million inbound and outbound passengers and about 520 thousand vehicles travelled through the Hengqin Port within the six months since the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin was officially established on September 17th last year.

According to the general plan for building the Guangdong-Macao in-depth cooperation zone in Hengqin, a "convenient and efficient process of custom clearance" is an important part for the zone.

Therefore, Hengqin Port adopts a 'joint inspection and one-time release' customs-clearance mode, which has improved efficiency of the clearance process and provided more convenience for pedestrians and vehicles traveling between Macao and Hengqin.

"As a student from the University of Macao who lives in Hengqin, I need to pass through the port several times a day. And I found the custom clearance really convenient and fast," said a student surnamed Huang. He added that the efficiency of the custom clearance process is changing the lifestyle of many residents from both Macao and Hengqin.

Mr. Hong, a young Macao entrepreneur who drives between Hengqin and Macao through the port on a daily basis, expressed his compliment, "While the number of cars with single licence plate permit has grown rapidly, the effectiveness of custom clearance for vehicle remains unaffected. Plus, the Immigration inspection officers at the port are very polite." Since 2016, Macao vehicles bearing a single licence plate permit can travel within Hengqin. Before that only those with double licence plate permits could.

According to the Hengqin Immigration Inspection, over 320 thousand cars from Macao with single licence plate permit have traveled through the port over the past six months since the establishment of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, a year-on-year increase of about 39%, accounting for 60% of the total vehicle traffic of the port during the period of time.
