The event was held by the Consulate General of Malaysia in Guangzhou, Tourism Malaysia and Maycham China Greater Bay. Malaysia has always been popular among Chinese tourists, especially for those from Southern China, said Beh Ching Chye, Consul General of Malaysia in Guangzhou.

While most countries are still under border restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic Malaysia's Pulau Langkawi Island has been reopened for international travel on November 15 under a travel bubble project.

The Langkawi Travel Bubble is one of the highlights of the event, to allow entry of foreign tourists with several epidemic prevention requirements, such as tourists should be fully vaccinated, they have to go through travel agents to visit the island and undergo rapid molecular testing upon arrival.

According to CG Beh Ching Chye, the event is a platform for both sides to meet with 'old friends' of the industry and a platform for exploring new possibilities of travelling in the post-COVID19 era.

Travelers to stay longer to explore the rich culture of the GBA

He said, Guangdong has always been one of the main hubs for business travelers from all over the world to come, and experience the latest technologies as well as products that can be featured to the world.

Whilst traditionally GBA visitors are business-focused and usually only come for business. With the latest development, it will encourage business travelers to stay longer to explore rich culture of the GBA as accessibility around GBA has improved tremendously over the years.

There are many Malaysian Chinese that reside in Malaysia. Most of them were once descendants of GBA as well, thus creating a unique culture that blends with the Malaysian culture, and also contributes to the unique cuisine in Malaysia.

Beh Ching Chye believes people of the GBA are also gastronomically attracted to what Malaysia has got to offer. And travelers to Malaysia will feel that they are not in foreign land but will feel like they are in their second home as mandarin is the third most widely spoken language in Malaysia.

Attendees also showed positive responses for the event, most of them are with Guangdong's travel agencies and airline companies. Many people are looking forward to the resumption of more international flights that could boost the international tourism exchanges.
