A new initiative aimed at strengthening legal and commercial ties between China and Portuguese-speaking countries was launched during the annual meeting of the Federation of Portuguese-Speaking Lawyers (FALP), held in Macao from November 19 to 21.

Delegations from Brazil, Portugal, Angola, Mozambique, Cabo Verde, Guinea-Bissau, S?o Tomé and Príncipe, and Macao SAR took part in the gathering, which also included a field visit to the Guangdong–Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin. There, they met with the Service Centre for Economy and Trade between China and Portuguese/Spanish-Speaking Countries (CECPS) and engaged in in-depth discussions.

The centre introduced the cooperation initiative for cross-border arbitration, which focuses on four areas: improving legal alignment, establishing regular dialogue, sharing case experiences to expedite dispute resolution, and expanding joint training.

According to officials, the initiative aims to create more predictable and internationally compatible arbitration practices to support the growing trade and investment between China and Portuguese-speaking countries.
