With the continuous expansion of its metro network, Shenzhen's "Eastward Expansion Strategy" reaches another milestone as Phase IV of Metro Line 3 is set to open by the end of this year. This new line will end the lack of metro access in Longgang District's Pingdi area, ushering in a new era of metro living. The line not only connects key development zones in eastern Longgang but also promotes a greener, more efficient urban lifestyle for residents.

Pingdi residents to enjoy direct metro access to Futian

Stretching 9.28 kilometers from Shuanglong Station to Pingdi Liulian Station, Phase IV of Line 3 includes seven stations: Liyuan, Xinsheng, Pingxi, Low-Carbon City, Baishitang, Fuping, and Pingdi Liulian. It also includes a newly built depot at Pingdi. The line is designed for a maximum speed of 100 kilometers per hour, with Liyuan Station constructed as an elevated station and all others as underground stations.

Once operational, the new line will significantly improve metro connectivity between Longgang's central area and Pingdi, alleviating transportation challenges in the region. Pingdi residents will be able to travel directly to Futian by metro, enhancing ties between Shenzhen's eastern urban clusters and its central Futian district. The project marks the end of Pingdi's history as a "blind spot" in Shenzhen's metro network.

Roadmap of Phase IV of Line 3

Advanced vibration reduction technology for green construction

The construction of Phase IV traversed a challenging environment, including rivers, bridges, high-pressure oil and gas pipelines, factories, and densely populated residential areas. The project required extensive coordination, with a total relocation area of 370,000 square meters, posing significant challenges for construction.

Guided by green construction principles, the project team adopted innovative vibration-reduction techniques to address issues associated with traditional methods, such as rail wear, corrugation, and increased cabin noise. Environmental measures, including automated wheel-washing stations, dust monitoring systems, and sprinklers, were implemented on-site to minimize dust emissions and integrate metro construction harmoniously into the urban environment.

Dual safety measures for risk-free construction

The elevated section between Liyuan and Xinsheng stations, particularly the 130-meter-long V-shaped rigid frame bridge, posed significant construction risks due to heavy traffic and structural complexity. To ensure safety, the project team implemented dual-layer protective measures, with enhanced safety monitoring during key operations such as high-altitude work and hoisting. Protective canopies and sealed barriers were employed to safeguard workers and minimize potential risks during lifting operations.

The opening of Phase IV of Line 3 will further enhance Shenzhen's urban functionality, providing residents with more convenient travel options and strengthening regional connectivity.
