On March 16, a large-scale job fair was held in Guangzhou as part of Guangdong's "Millions of Talents Gather in Guangdong" initiative which aims to attract over one million graduates and professionals.

Offers over 50,000 positions in-site and nearly 600,000 online

The event featured over 1,000 employers offering 50,000 positions in semiconductors, AI, robotics, high-end manufacturing, new energy vehicles, and the low-altitude economy, drawing nearly 120,000 job seekers from 1,000 universities worldwide. The fair also offers an online component running until March 31, with over 600,000 additional job openings.

Wang Weizhong, Vice Governor of Guangdong, indicated that Guangdong has a strong economy with a 14-trillion-yuan GDP, a real population of 150 million, and over 8.3 million enterprises. "With 31 major manufacturing sectors and nine trillion-yuan industrial clusters, we are in urgent need of skilled and innovative professionals," Wang said.

He further emphasized Guangdong's leadership in innovation as it is home to 77,000 high-tech enterprises, including Huawei, Tencent, and BYD.

Beyond careers, Wang noted Guangdong's high quality of life created by its great natural environment, preferential policies in housing and education, and efficient government services.

This job fair is the first major one under Guangdong's "Millions of Talents" initiative, and another large fair is set to take place in Shenzhen this fall.

In 2025, Guangdong will roll out a series of job fairs to offer a total of more than one million jobs. "We welcome talent to Guangdong," Wang said.

Emerging industries attract young job seekers

The job fair drew a large crowd of young job seekers from China and abroad, with top domestic universities sending groups of graduates. Booths were packed with eager candidates, resumes in hand, engaging in lively talks with recruiters.

At the fair, Jason Li, General Manager at Ubtech Robotics, highlighted job growth in robotics, saying demand for engineers and maintenance professionals is surging as robots enter commercial, industrial, and household use.

Job seekers like Lu Zihao, a University College London graduate, found the fair appealing. "There are leading enterprises in the low-altitude economy, semiconductor manufacturing, and internet technology. These emerging fields are particularly attractive for young people like us."

Chen Longying is a chemical engineering graduate from Huaqiao University and he is from Hong Kong. He believes that Guangdong's cultural similarities and rapid green industry growth made it an ideal choice. "Guangzhou's lifestyle is familiar to me, and the province's push for sustainability offers great career prospects for my major," said Chen.

In addition to job opportunities, the fair hosted an entrepreneurship forum where startup founders shared their experiences.

Xue Yao, who returned from Germany to start a Shenzhen-based wearable neural modulation company, praised Guangdong's startup-friendly environment. "Shenzhen's talent pool, rent-free offices, and expert guidance make launching a business easier. The province's supply chain lets ideas turn into products almost instantly."

Guangdong has over 600 startup incubators, providing training, funding, and subsidized office space in cities like Shenzhen and Zhuhai.
