Wang Weizhong, governor of Guangdong Province, met with US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and her delegation in Guangzhou on April 5th.

Wang warmly welcomed Yellen to visit Guangdong and briefed her on Guangdong's economic and social development. He emphasized that the relationship between China and the United States is one of the most important bilateral relationships in the world.

On April 2, Chinese President Xi Jinping spoke with U.S. President Joe Biden on the phone at the request of the latter. The two presidents had a candid and in-depth exchange of views on China-U.S. relations and issues of mutual interest.

President Xi noted that his San Francisco meeting with President Biden last November opened a future-oriented San Francisco vision. The two countries should respect each other, coexist in peace, and pursue win-win cooperation. The relationship should continue moving forward in a stable, sound, and sustainable way, rather than going backward. The two sides agreed to maintain communication, and turn the San Francisco vision into reality.

Since the reform and opening up, economic and trade exchanges between Guangdong and the United States have become increasingly close, and cultural exchanges have been frequent. At present, Guangdong has established friendly and cooperative relations with four states in the United States, and the two sides have 22 pairs of sister cities. A large number of American companies, including ExxonMobil, Walmart, and Procter & Gamble, have invested and developed in Guangdong, making the United States one of Guangdong's important economic and trade partners.

Currently, Guangdong is promoting the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, steadfastly deepening comprehensive reforms, expanding high-level opening up to the outside world, and striving to create a market-oriented, law-based and international first-class business environment.

Guangdong treats all types of entities equally, and continues to improve the level of trade and investment liberalization and facilitation, creating better conditions for enterprises from all countries, including American companies, to invest and trade in Guangdong.

Guangdong will strengthen exchanges and cooperation with the United States in the fields of economy and trade, culture and tourism, youth, Guangdong-Hong Kong- Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) development, local exchanges, climate change, and sustainable development, so as to make more contributions to the development of Sino-US relations.

Yellen expressed her pleasure at visiting Guangdong for the first time, and she was deeply impressed by the economic and social development here. The United States is pleased to see continued economic growth in China and Guangdong, believing that it will benefit both sides.

According to Yellen, the United States is willing to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, further strengthen exchanges and cooperation with Guangdong, and achieve mutually beneficial development.
